Compression testing is used to observe how a polymer reacts when subjected to compressive load by measuring the rate of deformation throughout the testing period. The data is used to investigate the compressive behavior of test specimens and determine the compressive strength, compressive modulus, and other aspects of the compressive strength and strain relationship. This can help predict the behavior of a polymer material or product when subjected to compression while in service.

Precise sample preparation is crucial to ensure accurate data when it comes to compression testing. Smithers has extensive on-site sample preparation facilities equipped with a CNC machine, on-site molding, and slitting and buffing equipment to reduce rubber thickness. Our sample preparation experts are highly skilled and can excise samples from production samples and most whole products to simplify the process for our clients.

About the Labs

At our rubber and plastic testing labs, we have six universal testing machines which cover a calibrated load range of 1N up to 250kN. These are supported by a variety of laser, video and the latest in contact extensometry. Using environmental chambers, we can test over the temperature range of -50°C up to 200°C.
