Meet the Engineer: Cayla Ser
Cayla Ser joined the Smithers distribution testing team this year as a commercial engineer.
What keeps you busy every day?
I support our clients by learning their supply chain and their product. So I stay busy communicating with our current clients and getting to know our new clients so I can understand their goals and requirements. Once I know what they’re looking to achieve, I can begin to put together a test program that fits their needs. I also write up project quotes and proposals.Who are your clients?
Most of our clients come from the medical device, consumer goods, food and beverage, industrial, and automotive industries, but we can support anyone who needs package testing.Tell us about your background.
I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I attended college at Michigan State University. I graduated with my B.S. in Packaging Science in the fall of 2020. For my capstone class during my senior year, I worked with Amazon to create a SIOC/FFP-compliant package for a Scooby-Doo figurine toy.I also had an internship at ORBIS Corporation as a sales engineer in automotive packaging, where I gained some experience with the automotive supply chain.
What excites you most about your new role?
The thing I am most excited about is seeing all kinds of package testing across multiple industries. Every day is a different day, which makes it interesting. I’m also excited to learn about the nuances of the supply chain across many industries, furthering my professional knowledge.How do you spend your time outside of work?
I practice Brazilian JiuJitsu and MMA in my free time. I’ve been training for four years and have participated in several tournaments.
