Webinar: The Green Tire 103: Silica Silanization

Webinar: The Green Tire 103: Silica Silanization

Original run date: Wenesday, April 7, 2021 | download below >

To support green tire initiatives in the tire industry, the Smithers compounding team conducted a multi-year study of silica dispersion in tire tread compounds. Smithers compounding experts studied over 20 green tire tread compound variations, using statistical software to analyze mixing procedures, extent of the chemical reactions, and formula and process optimization strategies. The study explored different mixing equipment, alternative forms of silica, different coupling agents, specific mixing sequences, and the impact of these variables on tire performance.

In this final installment of a three-part webinar series, Smithers experts Christine Domer and Walter Waddell will share details they have learned about the silanization reaction of silica and organosilanes in green tire tread compounds. They will explore alternative silica types and their reactions with the coupling agent.

This Smithers webinar series will serve as an evergreen guide to green tire chemistry that industry experts can use as a reference for years to come.

This webinar is the last in a three-part series on green tire chemistry, designed to help attendees understand the important parameters of a passenger car tire tread materials that successfully expand the magic triangle of tire performance.
