Moisture content refers to the total amount of water contained in a product, specifically the cannabis flower. This is measured using a moisture balance and expressed as a percentage of the total weight of the tested sample. Moisture content is an important metric to know when calculating cannabinoid content and evaluating your processing techniques.

Water Activity testing helps to determine the shelf stability of your cannabis product and is a way to determine how susceptible the product is to microbial contamination. The lower the water activity, the less likely a product will grow microbial contaminants. However, the higher the water activity, the more vulnerable cannabis products are to microorganism growth.
Smithers use an infrared-based water activity meter to determine the excess water that your plants have available to fuel the growth of bacteria and/or fungi.
