Smithers Environmental Risk Sciences Division Announces Chief Scientific Officer

(Wareham, Massachusetts, United States) – Smithers, a leading provider of testing, consulting, information, and compliance services, announces the appointment of Dr. Kalumbu Malekani to Chief Scientific Officer of the Environmental Risk Sciences Division. 
 
As the Chief Scientific Officer, Kalumbu will deliver scientific leadership, collaborating with clients and colleagues to develop business opportunities across existing and new service lines, including Environmental Fate, Plant and Animal Metabolism, Ecotoxicology, and Residue Chemistry. He will work closely with senior leadership to ensure that Smithers environmental risk sciences services are aligned with the current and future needs of clients. By gathering voice-of-the-customer feedback, he will be well-positioned to identify emerging technologies and scientific innovations to support clients.

Kalumbu Malekani earned his PhD in Environmental and Soil Chemistry from South Dakota State University, his MBA in Project Management and Finance from Keller Graduate School of Management of Devry University, his MSc in Soil Science and Applied Analytical Chemistry from The University of Aberdeen, and his BSc in Chemistry from The University of Zambia. He previously held dual roles as Technical Director, North America and Director of Environmental Fate and Metabolism, North America, at Smithers, and advanced research positions at Bayer Crop Science and DuPont Crop Protection. He is a member of numerous prominent associations, including the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). Kalumbu is an ACS AGRO Fellow, currently serving as an executive committee member.
