While proper tire inflation is generally left up to the consumer to maintain, there are many things that tire manufacturers and raw material suppliers are doing to assist in this process. Material adjustments to innerliners are providing improved performance relative to air retention during tire use.

The measurement of inflation pressure loss rate is conducted in a temperature controlled room with sensors designed to measure the pressure loss rate over a set period of time and conditions. Data acquisition is employed to ensure efficient and accurate reporting.

Smithers global tire laboratories can conduct this testing to common industry testing standards.

Common Standards

  • ASTM F1112 - Standard Test Method for Static Testing of Tubeless Pneumatic Tires for Rate of Loss of Inflation Pressure
  • GMW 15000 - Air Permeation Standard
