Smithers expert presents webinar on accelerated weathering testing

Some products and materials are exposed to multiple types of harsh natural conditions while in service. If a seal or o-ring is subjected to sunlight, extreme temperatures, high humidity, and naturally occurring salt, it can be difficult to identify which of these elements is the cause of degradation or damage. Without this knowledge, manufacturers are unable to plan material modifications to reduce their product’s vulnerability to specific elements.

In a laboratory setting, test engineers can expose product or material samples to a single element at a time and determine the exact cause of degradation—at an accelerated rate. With laboratory testing data, manufacturers can make informed product development and material selection decisions to maximize product performance.

In an upcoming 45-minute webinar, Smithers expert Jeremy Elliott will deliver a detailed look at a variety of artificial testing for a variety of elements, including: Elliott will also share insights on pre- and post-weathering testing to determine how different elements affect material properties and discuss a few extra considerations to maximize accuracy and value of testing data.

The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
