The warm and humid growing conditions of cannabis are perfect for molds and fungi.  During their growth process, certain fungi can produce toxic chemical compounds known as mycotoxins.  Mycotoxins can contaminate cannabis crops in the field, after harvesting or during storage depending on fungus activity.

At Smithers, we use High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with a Triple Quad Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS/MS) to determine if a product is within the state’s acceptable limits. Using industry leading processes and equipment, we screen for multiple types of aflatoxins and ochratoxin A.
