The techniques available include FTIR-ATR (diamond/germanium), DSC, microtome sectioning, optical and hot-stage microscopy.
These photographs below show a multilayer plastic film structure in cross section, viewed under polarized light and a half-wave tint plate:
The individual layers were characterized using a combination of hot stage microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and infra-red spectroscopy.
Applications for this test include:
- Checking supplier delivery against specification
- Determining the structure of competitor films
- As part of an investigation into poor pack performance (e.g. shelf life).
