What is Cybersecurity Awarness Month?

Cybersecurity Awareness Month was launched by the National Cybersecurity Alliance and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in October 2004 as a broad effort to help all Americans stay safer and more secure online. The annual event unites government and private industries to bring awareness about the ever-evolving digital security. This is the 19th Cybersecurity Awareness Month to bring communication and resources to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities and gaps to company employees and clients to stay digitally safe.

In recent years, Cybersecurity Awareness Month has grown exponentially because of the leadership and involvement of the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cybersecurity Alliance. The month now reaches consumers, small and medium-sized businesses, corporations, educational institutions, and young people across the United States.

Why does it matter?

As the digital space rapidly evolves, Smithers wants to ensure that our clients have the latest knowledge and education to position themselves effectively for maximum cybersecurity status. Misinformation has over saturated the market, which prevents companies from taking the necessary steps to become cyber-compliant. This may result in an increase in cybersecurity vulnerabilities, ineffective budgeting, planning, and or compromised client data, which can potentially lead to loss of business and legal issues. We encourage our clients and organizations to invest time and effort to learn the importance of having a strong cybersecurity posture. It is critical for companies to take proactive action to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities and gaps to nurture peace of mind and client loyalty.

Through our tailored cyber assessments based on Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) framework, we work alongside you and your company by bring the most optimal and effective cyber assessment to meet DOD and NIST SP 800-171 cybersecurity requirements.
