Folding endurance measures the durability of paper when repeatedly folded under a constant load, determining the number of folds it can withstand before breaking. Folding strength is reported as the number of double folds, while folding endurance is expressed as the log10 of the number of double folds.

The test is primarily used for papers that are frequently handled, such as banknote papers, maps and wrapping papers. It can also be used to assess ageing characteristics by comparing folding endurance before and after accelerated environmental ageing.

This test is included in our Paper Proficiency Service.
