Summary

This test method measures the percentage resilience of a rubber compound. Rebound resilience is determined by a pendulum hammer impacting a test specimen. Upon impact, the hammer imparts energy – a portion of that energy is then returned by the specimen to the pendulum and can be measured by the extent to which the pendulum rebounds again.

This test method can be used on the following material types:

  • Thermoset rubbers
  • Thermoplastic elastomers
  • Some polyester, polyether foam and plastic foam materials

Test method is commonly used for:

  • Quality control testing of compounding chemicals and polymers

*Please Note: The information outlined above is to be used as reference for ASTM D7121 Standard Test Method for Rubber Property – Resilience Using Schob Type Rebound Pendulum. Please refer to the ASTM International website for full details.
