The test methods outlined in this standard are used to evaluate the resistance of rubber materials when exposed to varying degrees of ozone. The resistance level is determined by the physical appearance and the severity of the cracks on the surface of the material sample.
Using the methods outlined in this standard, a material sample is undergoing accelerated time/exposure ozone tests. The results of these tests are used to predict the reaction of a material sample under dynamic or static surface tensile strain conditions in an atmosphere containing specified levels of ozone. Because these tests are accelerated and only simulate long-term outdoor ozone exposure, actual real-world exposure results may vary.
